A deposit of 25% of the fee is required upon booking an event and is not refundable should there be any reason to cancel or postpone. The event/party date will not be reserved until the deposit has been made. We are currently accepting cash or check only.
Should the artist or mermaid get sick, the deposit will be refunded 100% , and every effort will be made to find a replacement.
Payment of remaining fees will be due at the event and can be paid to the assistant (cash or check only).
If you use our services for less time than originally booked for, the price will be adjusted accordingly. However, payment of a minimum of 1.5 hours is required even if the event is less than 1.5 hours.
For parking, please either leave a space open in front of the house on the street, or in the driveway, or in the chosen venue’s parking area so that our assistant can unload equipment. Clients must reimburse the assistant any parking fees.
Photography is allowed. We will take pictures on our mobile devices as well, and, with your consent we will share 2 or 3 images across all our social media platforms for marketing purposes. To ensure safety of the children, we will either blur or crop out sections of their face (specifically for facepaint photos), or leave them completely out of photographs.
Mermaid Specific Policy:
If applicable, please inform the staff members of your chosen venue that you have booked SeaGlass Siren. We will require a safe change area for our mermaid to change into costume. If the event is in your home, we will need a safe change area preferable on the same level of the home. Please keep the children together in one area until the mermaid is ready to keep the realism.
It is not necessary that the children believe the mermaids are real. However, we ask for your help in maintaining the idea because we strive to encourage imagination and play. It can be extremely undermining to an event if adult guests start asking loud questions about our costumes, or burst the bubble by announcing the mermaids aren’t real. We have found in the past that this will often lead to behaviour problems where children will gang up on mermaids and the main focus of the event instead of having fun, is heckling the mermaids about being real. We want your kids to pretend and play. We have strategies in place if a child does not believe. We often encounter them one on one and if it becomes clear they aren’t willing to play along we simply ask them that if they choose not to believe or not to use their imagination, that they don’t ruin the fun for younger children who enjoy it. This usually works. If you see a child who is fixated on this topic to the point it is distracting the mermaids from being able to entertain guests, we ask that you intervene in a similar manner or redirect the child. Face Painting Specific Policy:
There are Limitations On Artwork; Our artist will not paint on any part of the body that is not legal to expose, or any place they are not comfortable painting. Our artist will also not paint any design or wording that is obscene, offensive, or defies good taste. Finally, although our artist has skills in painting copyrighted characters (ie Disney), they will not paint copyrighted characters, or any designs they are not comfortable painting.
We are not liable for allergic reactions to paints. Children with skin allergies or sensitive skin should either not participate, or have the artist perform a patch test at the beginning of the party.
For safety reasons, the artist will not paint children under 2 years old.
For sanitary reasons, Artist will not paint anyone who is or appears to be sick or suffering from: cold sores; conjunctivitis; any infectious skin condition; eczema or open wounds.
The artist will use reasonable care, but is not responsible for damage to clothing or property. The Client agrees to pay for any accidents or injuries caused by pets or guests, and/or any damage to Artist’s equipment or supplies caused by pets or guests. Behaviour Guidance Policy:
During the event, our Behaviour Guidance Policy is in Full Effect.
We are used to dealing with many behaviours in all age groups of children. However, if you see a child harming us in any way (pulling at our hair or earrings, biting, hitting, spitting etc), or being destructive to our costumes, or trying to pile more than 1 or 2 children on our workers, we ask for your support, understanding, and assistance in redirecting the behaviour. Specifically for our mermaid packages, gentle touching of our tail is encouraged; However, biting, picking apart, or ganging up to pull the costumes off is not.
For our mermaid packages, occasionally if a child’s behaviour is severe enough and redirection is not working, our mermaid may break character to enforce safety and listening.
Our assistant may also involve other parents. Children may also be approached by our assistant to help encourage respect of our workers. If any intentional harm is brought to our workers by children (after a reasonable effort to get them to stop) or intentional damages to our costumes occur (e.g. pulling off fins, breaking flukes by stomping on etc) you may be liable for an additional fee of $100.00 for compensation.
Our workers will not supervise children. The child’s behaviour and safety is the client’s and/or Parents’ responsibility.
We will not tolerate any form of sexual harassment from guests or clients.
Failure to follow our Behaviour Guidance Policy may result in our worker leaving a booking before it has ended, and clients being charged the full amount, plus damages. We have the right to refuse unsafe work conditions, as outlined by the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and leave without refunds if there are extreme adverse working conditions and if there is failure to remedy the situation after it has been brought to the client’s attention. Adverse conditions include but are not limited to: destructive, violent, or extreme inappropriate behaviour of a child or adult; illegal activities; dangerous conditions.
